According to recent reporting, a new restaurant will open this fall at 28 W Franklin St in Centerville. The eatery, named Meridien, will open in the former home of Sweeney’s Seafood Bar & Grill, which closed late 2022.

As detailed in the reporting, the concept will feature cocktails, wine and small plates that are inspired by cuisines from around the world. Meridien is being brought to life by a Centerville couple, Matt and Rhonda Hiatt, who hope to take some of the food and beverages they’ve sampled while traveling around the globe and recreate those experiences for the Centerville community.

Rhonda Hiatt shared with What Now Columbus that the timeline for opening is set for this fall, if renovations of the existing space go according to plan. When the construction is complete, Hiatt said the finished aesthetic will be a throwback to the 1920s era of live entertainment establishments, but in a modern way, with nods to a global perspective blended throughout the decor. 

Ultimately, Hiatt explained, the goal is for guests to have a slightly different experience each time they visit, from the live music in varying genres to the wines, cocktails and bites that will rotate seasonally. 

“The menu will feature some core basics like small plates, appetizers and fresh oysters, along with wines and cocktails from various regions with different origin stories,” Hiatt said. 

In addition to the varying drinks, the small plate offerings will also rotate and are intended to complement the wines and cocktails.
