The burger chain, which was started by Craig and Lea Culver in Sauk City, Wisconsin in 1984, has expanded to 900 restaurants in over 25 states. There’s currently one Culver’s in Columbus, located on the city’s west side at 1444 Rentra Dr.

According to details in the permit, the Hamilton Road location is being brought to the area by Meyer Foods Management Company, and as detailed on its website, it is an Indiana based family-owned franchisee with over 20 Culver’s locations throughout Indiana, Ohio and Georgia. What Now Columbus reached out to a representative with Meyer Foods Management Company to learn about the expected timeline for opening, but due to the permitting process and other factors, the company doesn’t have an exact time frame for opening yet.

Culver’s is known for serving what the chain calls “ButterBurgers” which are fresh, never frozen beef patties cooked to order and served on a lightly buttered and toasted bun, according to information on the eatery’s website.

In addition to burgers, the chain also serves chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, a corned beef reuben melt, as well as corn dogs and a pot roast sandwich, and for anyone following a plant-based diet, the eatery also offers a veggie burger. There are also several salads on the menu and seafood options such as a cod sandwich, cod dinner, served with fries and cole slaw, and butterfly jumbo shrimp.

Side dishes range from classics, like fries, available plain or topped with chili and cheese, onion rings, cheese curds, pretzel bites, broccoli and chili. With frozen custard made freshly throughout the day, guests will no doubt want to save room for dessert. Custard is available in chocolate and vanilla, in a cone, dish or served in a root beer float. There are also sundaes, shakes and concretes, which is custard blended with items like brownie pieces and salted caramel sauce or cookie dough.

[Editor’s note: the address has been updated to reflect recent permits filed for the project.]
