According to a recent article, a new Japanese Spanish fusion restaurant is on its way to Miamisburg. SushiNero will open this summer at 20 S 1st St, and will serve a menu focused on sushi and Spanish tapas. Restaurant industry veteran and owner Lauren Stites tells What Now Columbus that the space will feature a U-shaped bar, a patio and lots of cozy seating areas inside, bringing the total seating capacity inside and out to around 150.

“We’re working on getting some interior design elements to represent both cultures in the space,” Stites said. She further explained that the color scheme will be a soft white, with punches of red and a deep purple.

Stites is from the area, but has worked as a bartender at numerous restaurants throughout the country before coming back home, while the chef at SushiNero is originally from Japan, spent time living in Spain and since he came to Ohio, has connected with Stites. The two bonded over their shared love of certain dishes, like grilled octopus, so it was only natural that they ended up working together.

SushiNero will serve traditional sushi rolls such as California and spicy tuna rolls, and the Spanish fare will also focus on seafood, such as grilled octopus served with a side of potatoes and Spanish tomato based romesco sauce, and non-seafood items like Spanish ham on crostini.

Some of the drink offerings will include tequila forward drinks, Japanese whiskys and other cocktails that will embrace the fusion between ingredients found in Japanese and Spanish cuisine. Additionally, the establishment will offer beer and spirits to start out, with wine – and sake which is classified as wine – to come later, after that license is granted.

Stites is also leasing the neighboring space located at 103 S Second St, which she plans to open as an omakase style dining experience. The Second Street spot will launch at some point after SushiNero is up and running, which Stites is hoping to open by mid-July.
