A local pop-up coffee company will soon have a permanent home, when Blackened Coffee Co. transitions to selling its drinks and sandwiches from a dedicated space at 2619 N High St, inside Ace of Cups bar. The coffee business has filed a permit to make some interior renovations to a walk-up service window that Blackened Coffee is leasing from the bar.

What Now Columbus spoke with Blackened Coffee’s co-owner TJ Matisko about what customers can expect from the all vegan food menu at the permanent location.

“Our core menu will remain, but we’re extending it quite a bit, and we’ll offer up to 10 different sandwiches,” he said. In addition to having more food options, the coffee offerings will also expand to a full menu that includes lattes and cold brews as well as juices.

Since Blackened Coffee’s kitchen area will be roughly the size of a food truck, Matisko, who co-owns the coffee business with Aaron Best, expects the buildout to be completed quickly once the permitting process is complete and they’ve received all the approvals from the health department.

The coffee business is planning to operate Tuesday through Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the bar’s covered patio area serving as its seating area. And, Matisko said while they’re awaiting the permitting and other approvals, the team is working on giving the outdoor space a slight tweak.

“We’re making subtle changes to the patio that don’t require a permit, like painting and giving it a slight makeover to make more seating.”
