Bumble’s Backyard, Columbus’s first dog park, bar, and coffee shop, anticipates opening its doors in Franklinton on Saturday, October 26. Founders Lauryn and Evan Betterton were inspired to start the business after noticing a lack of spaces in Columbus where dogs and humans can have fun together.

“My husband Evan and I are crazy dog people,” Lauryn said in a statement. “As parents to our dog Bumble, we see an opportunity to create a meaningful experience for dogs, dog havers, and dog lovers.”

Bumble’s Backyard is entirely fenced in and features comfortable seating and gathering spaces for humans, while the park’s dog-friendly turf guarantees no dog goes home muddy. The business will remain open through every season, providing year-round enjoyment for humans and pups. The cherry on top is a curated selection of Columbus’s best craft beer and coffee alongside homemade soft serve ice cream.

Dog safety is a top priority at the park. Humans must provide vet records that prove their pup is vaccinated. Dogs are also required to be spayed or neutered and to complete a temperament test during their first visit. Plus, trained Barktenders will keep an extra eye on the pups.

The business owners are determined to make Bumble’s Backyard a place that’s by Columbus, for Columbus. “It’s always easier to order from Amazon or outsource your needs to the cheapest bidder,” Lauryn explained. “We would rather support a human being who lives in our community and is passionate about what they do.” That philosophy motivated them to ask Columbus’s own Compton Construction to build the business.

“It’s been a fun experience to work with Lauryn and Evan to make their vision happen,” said Blake Compton, the owner of Compton Construction. “Dog park bars are in now, and it’s going to be a cool concept for the whole city.”

After their opening weekend, you can visit Bumble’s Backyard Wednesday through Sunday to hang out with your two-legged and four-legged friends. Humans are always free, and dog-lovers without dogs are welcome. Dog-havers must buy a day pass, month pass, or annual membership for their pups to play.
