As first reported by Columbus Underground, construction is underway to create a food truck park, called Tortilla Park, which will allow for permanent parking of five food trucks, at 4057 Grant St, in Hilliard. In addition to the park, the site will also have a building that will serve as the commissary for Tortilla Street Food’s six food trucks and catering business, as well as a building dedicated to commercial rental spaces for those in the food industry.

Walter Eguez, owner of Tortilla Street Food, purchased the two acre site and Eguez tells What Now Columbus that Tortilla Park will be open year round, with seating spaces outside for guests as well as a stage area that will host live entertainment.
In what he calls “a win-win” for those in the industry, in addition to the food truck park, the second building that houses the commercial rental space will provide tenants with access to a full kitchen as well as space for prep work and the ability for the tenants to sell direct to the public on site, if they wish. Eguez doesn’t want to put any limits on the tenants, and his goal is to offer space for a variety of cuisines, both inside and in the park through the food trucks.
The project really comes down to not only a way to expand his own operations, but to give back to the community that’s been so good to his company and other food truck operators.
“We started 11 years ago, just selling tacos on the street, and seeing what the city has done with the food truck industry, it’s great to be part of this and to be able to provide this space,” he said.
Inside commercial tenants as well as the food truck operators haven’t been announced yet, and Eguez expects construction at the site to last about six months, but outdoors, he hopes to house four food trucks that offer food as well as one dessert food truck.
