A new brewery is coming to 410 E 4th St, in Marysville, and is expected to open this summer, according to recent reporting. Happenstance Brewing Project will serve beer in a space that embraces and highlights the natural environment nearby. Plans for the building, which is currently under renovation, include a spacious outdoor patio, roll up garage style glass doors and natural light utilized throughout the structure. Additional ways the interior decor will bring the outdoors inside is through using ample greenery and utilizing live edge bar tops and tables.

With roughly 4,200 square feet available, just under half of that space will be used for the brewery. And there should be around 85 to 95 seats indoors, with a wrap-around patio that features 12 four-seat tables outside, bringing the total seating capacity between 130 to 140. 

The brewery is a collaboration between Eric Kehres, his wife Rhonda and Chris Goodman. Kehres has a background in outside sales in the beer industry, while Rhonda is bringing the interior and exterior aesthetic to life and with Goodman’s experience as a brewer at Restoration Brew Worx in Delaware, he’ll head up the brew making process at Happenstance. 

The two friends and business partners connected years ago, during a chance encounter when Kehres visited the bottle shop where Goodman worked at the time. The two eventually began working together, and years later, decided to name their business after a word Kehres repeatedly referenced while retelling the story of how their paths crossed.

“I always said it was by sheer happenstance that Chris and I met,” Kehres recalled.

The team decided on Marysville as the right fit for the business, since the owners believe the area is on the cusp of a boom and are positioning themselves to be right in the thick of the growth. 

“I worked in the Delaware area for years and I’ve watched it develop into what it is. I’ve started to see how Marysville is following that same track and I’ve kept an eye on the growth in the area,” Goodman said. 

When it comes to the beer selections at the brewery, the goal is to have around 20 taps in total, hopefully to offer a little something for every preference. 

“The goal is to have 12 core beers on tap that will rotate, but we also plan on having a seltzer line and in the future we want to have designated lines for sours and barrel aged beers and taps for our house margarita,” Goodman said.

Currently, the team plans to host a rotating selection of food trucks onsite so guests can enjoy a meal along with their drink of choice.
