According to a recent Columbus Underground article, Land-Grant Brewing Co. is making plans to open a bar located in Franklinton, near the Gravity Experience Park. Land-Grant’s president, Adam Benner, tells What Now Columbus that the 1,000 square foot bar, called The Extension, will be “an intimate space,” with seating for 15 at the bar, along with a handful of high top tables and lower seating located throughout, bringing the total capacity to just over 40 guests.

“We really wanted the space to be a setting where folks could enjoy a great conversation over beer,” Benner said.

One way the team is fostering that environment is through the space’s aesthetic, which they view as “a slightly elevated Land-Grant.” The design honors the agricultural side of brewing beer by incorporating the traditional barn quilt designs found on the sides of barns throughout Ohio. These barn quilt designs have been built into the bar’s logo and will also be featured on the labels of some of the experimental beers offered at The Extension.

“Our approach to innovation is unique. We empower our staff to be creative, and our innovation team works with individuals to transform their ideas into reality,” senior director of production, Victor Pool, shared with What Now Columbus in an email.

“We’ll be diving deep into new and unique hop products and featuring varieties from our favorite suppliers. We’ll also be working with non-traditional and ingredients that are new to us,” Pool further explained.

Some of the offerings Pool said guests can expect to find during the first couple of months of operation include a tepache-inspired tart ale, which features pineapple and tamarind, and is inspired by the flavors of the traditional Mexican fermented beverage. Other beers include a Tom Yum beer, a wheat beer infused with lime, lemongrass, galangal, and Thai chilis that’s inspired by the iconic Tom Yum flavors, as well as a JAFB collab featuring innovative hops and a new yeast strain.

Additionally guests can find wine beer hybrids that have been brewed with specific grape varieties, hard cider, ready to drink draft cocktails, plus the brewery’s House Beer, Lemon Glow and Oh Sure on draft.

The Extension is set to open soon, with the company aiming to open as early as next month.
