According to a recent article, Yawning Bear Bread Co. is making plans to open its first ever brick and mortar, located at 999 Mt Vernon Ave. The bread focused bakery is owned by Liz Brett, who has been selling loaves of her artisan style bread at area farmers markets over the past couple years and now plans to open the brick and mortar this summer.

The decor of the space will be “as cozy as possible,” Brett tells What Now Columbus. Think warm lighting, along with a handful of seats where guests can enjoy slices of toast and a cup of drip or cold brew coffee.

Guests will be able to find their favorite loaves such as sourdough seeded rye, classic sourdough, roasted rosemary garlic sourdough and artisan white, along with some new offerings. In addition to sourdough loaves, Brett will also sell baguettes, focaccia and ciabatta.

“I want to introduce rotating varieties that I haven’t been able to create as a cottage baker. I’d also love to do a butter and jam offering for take out or a quick sit down snack,” Brett said of her menu plans.

Although her main menu focus is on bread, Brett hasn’t ruled out the possibility of offering pastries at some point in the future. But for now, she has her sites set on getting the Mount Vernon Avenue space in order and opening the brick and mortar. The current timeline for opening is set for mid-June to early July, depending on the inspection process.
